Ex Imo Gov Ohakim charged with fraud, giving false information



The police have charged a former governor of Imo State, Chief Ikedi Ohakim, with fraud and giving false information.

The office of the Inspector-General of Police filed the case marked, CR/993/2020 and dated September 23, 2020, at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja.

The case, which was signed by Stanley Nwodo, contained three counts.

In one of the counts, Ohakim was accused of giving false information against one Chinyere Amuchienwa that she threatened him with a gun, knowing it to be false.

He was also accused of “derogatory” use of the name of Raji Fashola as the owner of a piece of land situated in Ikeja, Lagos State.

The charges read, “That you Ikedi Ohakim, on or about May 23, 2019, at Asokoro, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, did unlawfully give false information against one Chinyere Amuchienwa that she threatened you with a gun, knowing it to be false, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 140 of the Penal Code Law of the Northern Nigeria, 1968.


“That you, Ikedi Ohakim, on or about May 23, 2019, at Asokoro, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, did unlawfully use derogatory the name of Raji Fashola as the owner of the purported land situated at Ikeja, Lagos State, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 140 of the Penal Code Law of the Northern Nigeria, 1968.” Punch
