Who Each English Club Can Face In The Champions League Round Of 16 Draw

The group stage of the Champions League is complete and the competition is on a break until February when the knockout stage commences.

Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur all won their respective groups and usually they would earn favourable draws. Liverpool had to settle for second in Group A and will face one of the group winners.

The Reds will be pleased to be avoiding Paris Saint-Germain, who also finished second in their group. The attacking threat the French side possess in Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe has been key for Christophe Galtier this season. The powerful trident have been on fire, scoring 44 goals between them in all competitions. They are hoping to fire Les Parisiens to European glory for the first time in the club’s history.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have just four teams available for them to be drawn against in Portuguese sides Porto and Benfica, who they have battled a lot in recent years, German giants Bayern Munich or Real Madrid, who defeated them in the final last term.

Graham Potter’s Chelsea could face Club Brugge, Inter Milan, Eintracht Frankfurt, RB Leipzig, Borussia Dortmund or PSG.

If the Blues were to face Inter, they could potentially come up against Romelu Lukaku, who they loaned back to the Italian giants after a disappointing return to Stamford Bridge last year. Another interesting battle could be with RB Leipzig as they would go head-to-head with another former striker in Timo Werner and also a player reportedly destined for west London in the near future, Christopher Nkunku.

Pep Guardiola’s City could be in line for a tie against Brugge, Inter, Frankfurt, RB Leipzig or PSG. But they also could be drawn to face AC Milan who were the runners-up in Chelsea’s group.

Spurs could potentially be handed Brugge, Inter, Milan, RB Leipzig, Dortmund or the Ligue 1 champions as their opponents. Undoubtedly, the French giants are the most feared team on the list.

The round of 16 draw will be held in Nyon, Switzerland on Monday 7 November at 11am GMT.
